Branko Bahunek was born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1935. From 1950 he studied at the School of Applied Arts in Zagreb. Meeting prof. Ivan Sebalj, a prominent painter of the older generation, was a turning point in his life. Under the tutorship of prof. Sebalj, Bahunek grew into a serious painter which he demonstrated with his mature “Selfportrait”. In 1970 he decided to dedicate himself to painting and no longer worked as an interior decorator. His first one-man show in 1974 in Zagreb, was well received by the public and critics alike, and won him the Prix d’Honner in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Since then he has exhibited all over the world (Berlin, Rotterdam, Princeton, Brussels, Zurich, Munich, Duisburg, Amsterdam, Kiel, Vienna, Paris, Nice, Morges, New York, Toronto, Padova, Caracas, Seoul), earning recognition, critical acclaim and prestigious awards.
