Dimitrije Popovic was born in 1953 in Cetinje, Monte Negro. He graduated from the Academy of Art in Zagreb ,class of Prof. Sime Peric. In 1974, while still a student, he went to Paris where he was introduced to the renowned art collector Mr.Darvier. He exhibited in Paris in 1978 at the Gallery Alexander Braumuller, where his work was shown together with the works of Ernst Fuchs, Dali, Leonor Fini, Dado, Victo Brauner and others. In 1982 the Gallery Liberate from Pforzheim, Germany and Universal Fine Arts from Washington D.C. organize a show of his work together with Dali’s.
That same year, on the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci “Leonardo a Milano 1482-1982” he exhibited at the Palazzo Sormani in Milan, Italy his “Omaggio a Leonardo” period. He was invited to exhibit his drawings and etchings at the 27th International Festival of Art “Due Mondi” in Spoleto, Italy. Dimitrije has exhibited all over the world at more than 50 one-man shows and participated in more than 200 group shows. So far , six monographs have been published about him and his work and four TV documentaries filmed. He has received numerous prizes and awards in Croatia and abroad.
