Biografy

Josip Bukal was born in 1942 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated from the Academy of Art of the University of Zagreb, and then spent four years doing postgraduate work in the Master workshop of the famous Croatian artist and teacher, Krsto Hegedusic. Since 1968 he has exhibited in one-man shows and group exhibitions in most cities of ex-Yugoslavia as well as shows in Florence,Vienna, Caracas, London and New York.
He expressed his art through color and drawing, worked as a graphic designer and silk-screen expert. In his work he combined the aggressive elements of pop and psychedelic art with secessionistic ornamentalism. For Josip Bukal the creating of a new poster was not only a one-dimensional moment in which he found inspiration but a unique alltime and graphic quality. This way he expertly equilibrated between the needs of industry, serial art and the intimate imperatives of his own talent, intuition and criticallity, thus bestowing his lines and colors a crystal composition. He worked and lived in Zagreb where he died in 2010.
